Just like people, kitties all have their own likes and dislikes. One furball may be fascinated by her owner’s sneakers, while another may love playing with bottlecaps. Of course, our feline buddies also have some pet peeves. A Bowmanville, ON vet lists some of them below.
Water
Most kitties aren’t very big fans of getting wet. There is a good reason for this: wet cat fur gives off a unique scent, which could attract predators in the wild. Fluffy may also be instinctively frightened of deep water and/or strong currents.
Loud Noises
Loud noises are close to the top of the list of things cats don’t care for. Fluffy will probably bolt for her favorite hiding spot if the smoke alarm goes off or if you drop a pan.
Being Moved
Kitties are very sleepy little furballs. Actually, Fluffy spends a rather exorbitant amount of time napping. Even so, your drowsy pet probably doesn’t like being moved mid-nap.
Being Ignored
Some cats are furry little cuddlebugs, who want attention all the time. Others only feel cuddly some of the time. However, no matter which category your pet falls into, she’ll likely start getting irritable if you don’t pay enough attention to her.
Not Being Ignored
At the other end of the spectrum, there are kitties who don’t want to be petted or held much. Fluffy may get annoyed if you pick her up or pet her. She may also change her mind about this daily. Just abide by what your pet prefers.
Car Rides
Many of our feline patients protest loudly all the way to the clinic, and all the way home. Sorry, Fluffy: those veterinary appointments are for your own good!
Changes
Kitties are very emotional, and feel safest in familiar environments and routines. In fact, they often get very upset by major changes, such as moving, changing owners, gaining or losing a friend.
Dogs
Fido and Fluffy have had a rather rocky relationship over the years. While some dogs and cats fight like, well, cats and dogs, others are best buds. That said, even when they are friends, doggy affection can be pretty trying for cats. Fido may lick or slobber on his feline companion, for instance. That’s bound to rub a kitty the wrong way!
