September is Happy Cat Month! Of course, we think kitties deserve to be happy all year. However, it’s not always easy to tell if your feline pal is content or not. Fluffy can be confusing, and even a bit temperamental! A local Oshawa, ON vet lists some ways to tell your kitty is happy in this article.
Good Exam Results
Does Fluffy get a clean bill of health from her vet? If so, that’s excellent! With our animal companions, their emotional and mental health definitely reflects in their physical condition. Healthy cats are happy cats!
Affection
Kitties often show gratitude for the good care they get by being cuddly and loving with their humans. Fluffy can be quite affectionate! Purrs, head butts, and snuggles are all great indications that your cute pet knows you take good care of her. (Of course, our feline companions also show affection in some rather curious ways, such as by staring at us, following us around, or, in some cases, biting or scratching us, but that’s beside the point.)
Friskiness
Cats are super cute when they’re feeling frisky and playful! If Fluffy just can’t resist jumping on her favorite catnip mouse, and generally loves to pounce on things, you may very well have a content furball on your hands.
Relaxation
Kitties may have big egos, but at the end of the day, these little furballs are quite small, and can get scared very easily. If your feline friend is relaxed enough to sprawl out in the middle of the floor, or hang out at the table with you, there’s a good chance that you have a happy pet.
Vocalizations
One thing we love about cats: they’re all unique individuals, with their own quirks. Just like people, some kitties are more talkative than others are. It’s not just about how much your little buddy meows, but when and how. Does Fluffy meow when she wants you to pet her? Does she answer back when you talk to her? Those are pawsitive signs!
Facial Expressions
Cats can actually be pretty expressive. Does Fluffy often have a smug, satisfied, or even superior look on her face? That means you’re doing a pretty good job at keeping your feline overlord content!
