Fun With Floppy: Celebrating International Rabbit Day

September 15 2022
Do you have a bunny? You may want to make a note on your calendar for September 24th: it’s International Rabbit Day! Floppy is an adorable little pet, and she may very well be one of the cutest animals on the planet. An Oshawa, ON vet lists a few things you can do to brighten up your furry pal’s day in this article.

Playtime

Bunnies can be quite playful, which is adorable to watch. However, Floppy definitely has her own set of do’s and don’ts when it comes to playtime. The first thing to keep in mind is the fact that rabbits are very delicate, and can easily get hurt. Even taking a spill can result in broken bones for them. Bunnies can also literally be scared to death, so it’s best to avoid ambush-style games. Also, be sure to choose a safe area.

What To Do

How do you play with a rabbit? You’ll have to experiment to see what Floppy likes. Try rolling a ball towards your fuzzy buddy, playing Hide and Seek with her, hiding treats for her, or even teaching her tricks. Another option would be dragging a cat toy on a string.

Food

No surprises here: Floppy likes treats just as much as our other patients. Indulge your furball’s sweet tooth, and give her a bit of apple or banana. Ask your vet for specific recommendations.

Environment Upgrade

Want to make your home more bunny-friendly? You can make mazes out of cardboard boxes or cat tunnels. You can even use PVC pipe, as long as you get a size that’s large enough to ensure your furry friend can’t get stuck. Rabbits also enjoy having ‘hopstacle’ courses, which you can make by setting out sturdy boxes, storage bins, or footstools.

Toys

Bunnies need to chew almost constantly in order to keep their teeth from overgrowing. You’ll need to make sure that your cute pet always has plenty of chew toys. The good thing is that these are super easy to make. You can create toys from things like cardboard, wicker, and even plain paper. Look online for specific ideas. Just don’t give your furry buddy anything dangerous. Avoid items with sharp parts, dangling threads, or small pieces. Ask your vet for more information. Is your bunny due for a visit?
