DIY Cat Beds

March 1 2017
If you have a cat, you’ve probably noticed that our feline pals tend to be rather sleepy. Actually, that’s a bit of an understatement: many kitties are flat-out lazy! Fluffy can sleep as much as 20 hours a day! One of the best things you can do for your furry buddy is to set out lots of comfy beds and napping spots. You don’t have to break the bank getting pet furniture, however. Read on for some great DIY cat bed ideas from a local Oshawa, ON vet!

End Table

An old end table with doors can make a really cute cat bed for Fluffy. Remove the doors, and put a store-bought bed inside. A soft pillow or blanket will also work. Dress it up with paint if you want, or drape fabric over it.

Repurposed Sweater

An old sweater can make a great kitty bed. Start by sewing the wrists and waist closed. Next, get a pet-safe stuffing, and fill the sleeves and torso. Finally, you’ll want to close the neck opening, and sew the whole thing together in a round or oval shape.

Suitcase

A hard-shell suitcase can make a really cute cat bed. You can give it a fresh new look with paint, contact paper, or stencils. Add a soft pillow or blanket, and tell your feline friend not to use it. Fluffy will hop right in! Just be sure that it can’t accidentally close on your kitty.

Cat Tent

Many kitties feel safest in enclosed spaces. You can make your feline buddy a little pet tent in just a few minutes, using a wire hangar and an old tee shirt. Look online for step-by-step instructions. Don’t forget to add a soft blanket before you give it to your four-legged pal.

Box

Fluffy certainly does love boxe! You can make your sleepy pet a cute bed out of a plastic storage tote, a wicker box, a cardboard box, or a wooden box. Just add soft bedding to make it nice and comfy for your kitty. Instant purr!

Tips

Be sure to wash your furry friend’s bedding regularly. Use hot water and unscented detergent: this will help kill fleas and bacteria.
