Choosing Cat Furniture

July 15 2019
Does your cat have some furniture of her own? Fluffy isn’t exactly shy about napping on our sofas, beds, and chairs… or anything else, for that matter. However, it’s good for kitties to have some things that were made to fill their own specific needs. Read on as a Bowmanville, ON vet offers tips on choosing purrniture for your feline friend.

Kittens

Baby cats are adorably, frisky little bundles of energy. You’ll want to offer your tiny feline things that incorporate fun toys, and offer her lots of opportunities to scratch, climb, and jump. While it’s fine to get one or two small pieces, you don’t want to get too many of them. Fluffy grows quickly, and will soon be too large for kitten-sized things!

Shy Cats

If you have a scaredy-cat on your hands, choose pieces that offer your timid furball lots of hiding spots. Pet tents, tipis, and tunnels are all fine. You can also get Fluffy a cat tower with enclosed levels.

Senior Cats

As Fluffy ages, she’ll become less playful, and will spend more and more of her time sleeping. She’ll also find it harder to jump or climb much. Opt for things with the lowest level close to the ground. These will be easier for your kitty to get in and out of.

Multiple Cats

If you have more than one cat, keep this in mind when selecting kitty furniture. Make sure that the things you buy are able to fit all your furballs at once. That way, your pets won’t end up squabbling over who gets to use the cat tower.

Nosy Cats

Many kitties like climbing to high vantage points, so they can get a better view of their kingdoms and servants. If you sometimes find your feline pal on top of your bookcase or fridge, get her a floor-to-ceiling piece, or install a catwalk.

All Cats

As you may have noticed, cats are rather drowsy. If there’s one thing that is suitable for any kitty, it’s a good bed. Store-bought beds are great, but Fluffy isn’t very picky here. Your sleepy pet will also happily doze off on a soft pillow or a folded up blanket. You can put these things in boxes or wicker baskets for extra purrs.
