Remember Me Thursday

September 15 2021
There’s a very special pet holiday coming up. September 23rd is Remember Me Thursday. Remember Me Thursday is an event that was started to honor pets that do not have forever homes. There are definitely far too many cute, sweet animals out there in need of homes. An Oshawa, ON vet lists some ways to celebrate below.

Candlelight Vigil

One of the main ways Remember Me Thursday is celebrated is by candlelight vigils. If you are taking part in an event held by a shelter or rescue, there’s a good chance there will be candles involved. There are also virtual vigils. If nothing else, you can light a candle on your own, and take a picture of it to share. Given that the main priority of Remember Me Thursday is to ‘light up’ social media with pets and awareness of them, this is a great way to shine a light on this topic.

Rescue Pets

Remember Me Thursday falls into line with several other adoption events. October is Adopt A Dog Month, and the third week of September is Adopt A Less Adoptable Pet Week. Of course, there’s never a bad time to adopt a rescue pet. Many people report that the pets they have rescued have in turn rescued them. There’s something truly special and profound about the love and loyalty our animal companions provide!

Other Events

Vigils aren’t the only event associated with Remember Me Thursday. There’s also the Rescue Pet Hero awards, which feature pets with truly remarkable stories. Every year, there is a special Rescue Me Thursday spokesperson. This year it’s Brittany Aldean, wife of country singer Jason Aldean. There’s also a contest. You can submit your pet’s photo and story to win money and supplies for your favorite shelter. We can’t forget the official song: Stevie Woodward’s This Candle Burns Bright. You can learn more about Rescue Me Thursday on the official website here.

Helping Out

Aside from Remember Me Thursday, there are some other great ways you can help rescue pets. If you are ready to bring a new animal companion into your life, consider adopting one. You can also volunteer or make a donation of either money or supplies. Fostering is another option. Any little bit helps! Have you recently adopted a rescue pet? Please contact us, your Oshawa, ON animal clinic, for all your new buddy’s veterinary care needs.
