Holiday Gifts For Lazy Cats

December 15 2021
Happy Holidays! At this time of year, we often get lots of photos, videos, and stories about our feline friends wreaking havoc on Christmas trees. Of course, some kitties are more interested in napping beneath the tree than in trying to climb it. If your kitty is a furry couch potato, read on! An Oshawa, ON vet lists some gift ideas for unmotivated furballs below.

Beds

It probably isn’t much of a shock to find this one at the top of the list. While your furry buddy will manage to make do with your beds and sofas, she will appreciate something that was made for her. It doesn’t matter if your sleepy pet already has a bed. Or two. Or five. According to Fluffy’s golden rules, there’s just no such thing as too many napping spots!

Pet Fountains

Many kitties prefer to drink running water. (This may be because in the wild, standing water is more likely to be contaminated.) Consider getting Fluffy a pet fountain. Even lazy cats need to stay hydrated!

Cat TV

Did you know that there are programs—and even whole channels—made just for Fluffy? Some kitties seem quite fascinated by shows about mice and birds. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Window Seat

Fluffy may not be motivated enough to hunt for real. However, your furry little friend will probably enjoy a window seat, where she can watch birds and squirrels and perhaps daydream about hunting.

Plants

Does your feline buddy enjoy catnip? Grow her a little plant. Even if Fluffy can’t be bothered to play with it, she may like nibbling on it. Cat grass is also a good option.

Pet Tent

Many cats like small, enclosed spaces. A kitty tent or condo is a great option for a pet that isn’t very motivated. On a budget? Look online for great DIY options.

Treats

Just like Garfield, the idol of all lazy cats, unmotivated kitties usually rouse themselves for food. Don’t overindulge your furball! If Fluffy isn’t very active, it will be easy for her to pack on pounds. That would be very bad for her health! In fact, even giving your feline pal ten calories too much each day can make her gain weight. Please contact us with any questions or concerns about your lazy cat’s health or care. As your Oshawa, ON animal clinic, we’re here for you!
