Celebrating Adopt A Shelter Pet Day

April 15 2022
April 30th is Adopt A Shelter Pet Day! If your own furry pal was once a shelter pet, this is a good time to offer them some extra TLC, and maybe spoil them a little. Read on as a local Oshawa, ON vet lists some ways to celebrate this special day.

Toys

Toys are very important! They keep your furry friend occupied and entertained, offering stimulation and enrichment. They are also very good for pets, both mentally and physically. A new plaything and a fun play session are definitely in order!

Treats

When it comes to pampering pets, snacks are definitely at the top of the list. Fido and Fluffy can both have some plain, cooked meat, without any spices, oils, or sauces. Deli meat is also fine. Just stick with safe options, and don’t go too crazy.

Photo Session

As far as we’re concerned, there’s just no such thing as too many pet pictures. Snap some adorable shots of your furry buddies. (Tip: for better pictures, time your photo session for sunrise or sundown, and pick a background that contrasts with your pet’s fur.)

Help Out

Don’t forget about all of the sweet dogs and cats that are still in shelters. Consider doing something to help out animal shelters or rescues. An easy way to do this is to just donate money or supplies. If you have more time, consider volunteering or even fostering.

Spread The Word

Share some posts on social media, to help spread awareness. (We never get tired of seeing Gotcha Day posts.) You can also signal boost posts about adoptable pets in our own local shelters. You may help a cute dog or cat find their forever home with just a few keystrokes!

Adopt

The best thing you can do to celebrate this special occasion? Adopt a shelter pet yourself! Of course, this is a huge decision. Adopting a pet could entail years or even decades of pet parenting, so it’s not something to take lightly. Be sure to think long and hard before proceeding. If all lights are green, go for it. You may find that walking into a shelter and seeing a cute furry face for the first time is a life-changing moment for you both! As your Oshawa, ON animal clinic, we are here to help. Please contact us for all your pet’s veterinary care needs.
