Pets In Film

June 15 2022
Pets in Film Day is coming up on June 19th. It probably isn’t much of a shock to learn that we love watching animal movies. Our furry friends can not only keep us laughing with their cute antics, they also have a knack for pulling (or yanking) at our heartstrings. Read on as an Oshawa, ON vet lists some of the most iconic pet actors and movies.

Dogs

Man’s Best Friend has had quite the career in film and TV. Some pups have become absolute icons after finding themselves in front of the camera. A few famous pooches would include Rin Tin Tin, Benji, Lassie, Otis, Toto, Beethoven, Hooch, and the adorable Marley from Marley and Me.

Cats

Fluffy hasn’t done quite so well in the entertainment business as Fido. This is only to be expected: cats generally refuse to follow orders, so it stands to reason that they wouldn’t take direction very well. However, a few furballs have gained celebrekitty status. Those would include Morris, of TV commercial fame; Keanu, a ‘child’ (kitten) star; and Grump Cat, the adorable grouch that became an internet sensation.

Other

Cats and dogs may be the most popular animal celebrities, but they aren’t the only ones. We can’t forget our equine friends, such as the stars of various Black Beauty re-enactments. There’s also the ferret who charmed us all in Along Came Polly; Flipper, the beloved dolphin; and several birds and penguins.

Animation

We really couldn’t talk about pets in film without mentioning those beloved classics. Many of these have now charmed several generations of kids! First, there are the Disney favorites, such as Lady and The Tramp, Bambi, and 101 Dalmatians. We also can’t forget movies like Bolt, The Secret Life Of Pets, and Rio. While many of these are intended for kids, they’re also pretty fun to watch as adults.

Tearjerkers

Our animal companions certainly deserve some Oscars … and perhaps profit-sharing in some tissue companies. There are definitely some tearjerkers out there! Some of these include Old Yeller, Hachiko, The Fox and The Hound, Black Beauty, White God, and too many more to list. It’s amazing how easily we can connect emotionally with animals … even ones that aren’t real! Please contact us with questions or concerns about your kitty’s health or care. As your local Oshawa, ON animal clinic, we’re dedicated to offering great veterinary care!
