Fido’s Fall Plans

October 15 2023
Autumn is a beautiful season, and one that seems to often fly by. There’s only a short window to enjoy that beautiful foliage, crisp weather, and seasonal decorations, flavors, and events. Our canine pals also have a few things they enjoy doing at this time of year. An Oshawa, ON vet goes over some of Fido’s fall plans in this article.

Take A Long Walk

Walks aren’t only important for sanitary reasons. They offer your furry bff a much-needed change of scenery, and help him stay active and fit. The mental stimulation those daily strolls provide is also important. Fido gets a lot of information through his nose, so sniffing the neighbor’s lawn is kind of like reading a newspaper for him. The exercise and fresh air will be good for you, too. Grab a mug of your favorite seasonal coffee, and take your pup to a pretty trail.

Beg For Treats

Many of those popular autumn flavors can work well as dog treats. Turkey, pureed squash or pumpkin, cooked sweet potato, chicken, and apple slices are all safe for Fido. Buy or make your pooch some autumn snacks. Don’t forget to make your four-legged friend do a trick for his treat!

Curl Up And Nap

Rainy autumn afternoons make for great napping weather. Make sure Fido has a comfy doggy bed for all those naps. If your pup’s bed is looking thin or worn, this is a good time to replace it. Once it gets cold out, that warmth and support will make a big difference in keeping your furry pal comfy.

Play With A New Toy

Every year, dog toy manufacturers outdo themselves with creating adorable playthings for Fido. Pick up something cute and seasonal for your four-legged friend to play with.

Fashion Show

Dogs with thin fur often need some extra protection from cold weather. If Fido wears jackets or sweaters in winter, pull them out of storage and take a look at them. Make sure they’re clean and in decent shape, and still fit. Speaking of clothing, if you’re planning to put your pooch in a costume for Halloween, you’ll want to start shopping now. Make sure your canine friend’s outfit isn’t hot, tight, or restricting, and doesn’t interfere with his vision. Avoid things with small pieces. Also, don’t force Fido to dress up if he doesn’t enjoy it.  As your Oshawa, ON pet hospital, we’re dedicated to providing excellent care. Please feel free to contact us anytime!
