Holiday Gifts for Fido

December 15 2016
Are you finished with your holiday shopping? Or are you waiting until the last minute? It’s always a great feeling when you find the perfect gifts for your loved ones. Of course, our canine buddies also enjoy getting special treats and presents. While classic doggy toys and treats will definitely get Fido’s tail wagging, there are lots of other great presents you can get your pooch. An Oshawa, ON veterinarian offers a few suggestions below.

Beds

One of the best things you can do for your furry best friend is to make sure he has a comfy bed. There are actually quite a few things to consider when buying Fido a new bed. For instance, senior dogs and large breeds will benefit from orthopedic beds, while smaller pooches may prefer bolstered beds. Ask your vet for specific recommendations.

Automated Toys

There are now all sorts of fun new toys you can get your canine buddy. If your furry pal loves chasing tennis balls, consider getting him an automated ball launcher. You can also get Fido an automated laser pointer or an interactive ball. Not all doggy toys are suitable for every pup, however. For instance, mechanical ball launchers aren’t safe for bigger dogs, because large breeds can choke on tennis balls. Ask your vet for advice.

Doggy Clothes

Does your pup have thin fur? If so, Fido may be more comfortable with a sweater or jacket in winter. When shopping for your dog, avoid anything that is tight or constricting, and anything with small parts, like buttons, that could choke him.

Dinnerware

Food is a very big deal to our four-legged buddies. If Fido is an older pooch, consider getting him elevated dishes, which will be easier for him to eat from. Your pup may also benefit from an automatic waterer.

Pet Stairs

If you have a pint-sized pup or a senior dog, consider getting some pet stairs. These can really help Fido get in and out of the car, or on and off beds and sofas.

Treats

Why not make Fido some delicious homemade treats? Look online for great recipe ideas. Be sure to stick to pet-safe ingredients, like whole-wheat flour, shredded meat, and cheese. Ask your vet for more information. Please feel free to contact us anytime. As your Oshawa, ON pet clinic, we are here to serve all your pet’s veterinary care needs.
