There’s a pretty special pet holiday coming up. January 24th is Change A Pet’s Life Day. If you’re an animal lover, you’ve likely been touched by stories of sweet pets who ended up in bad situations, but then got second chances. You may also have realized that helping animals is a very beautiful and rewarding experience. Read on as an Oshawa, ON vet lists some things you can do to change a pet’s life.
A Furever Home
There’s a reason we put adoption at the top of this list: it’s the single and most powerful way to change a pet’s life. We love seeing any pets thriving in loving homes, but it’s extra special seeing dogs and cats getting a second chance. That said, adoption is forever, so make sure you are ready, willing, and able to make a lifelong commitment.
Foster
If you’re not quite ready to adopt, you may want to consider fostering. Animals need fostering for many different reasons. Some are very young, and need socialization and/or overnight care. Others may be recuperating from illness or injury. There are also many rescues that just don’t have actual buildings, and therefore rely on volunteers to house and feed their charges. Fostering isn’t for everyone: some people do find it very difficult to say goodbye. That said, if you want to help make a difference, this is a great way to do it.
Donate
There are many animal rescues and charities that really do everything they can to help pets. These organizations change pets’ lives every day! Many of them rely on donations to get by. Monetary donations are always needed and appreciated, but supplies are also helpful. Just be sure to check before dropping any items off.
Matchmaker
This is one you can do in your spare time. Match ads for lost pets with those for found pets. Or, share posts about a cute pet that needs a loving home. You may very well change a pet’s life with just a few keystrokes!
